In later models, electronics play a larger part of the transmissions operation while utilizing the cars computer to control how the transmission operates. What previously might have been diagnosed as an internal transmission failure may only be a wiring problem, sensor, solenoid problem, and/or computer failure. Standard transmissions are not as complex as automatic transmissions but also need thorough diagnostics to determine where the problem exists. With a standard transmission the problem could be internal damage, worn or broken clutch, or the clutch hydraulics. The clutch is designed to stop the transmission movement so the driver can shift between the gears. Proper diagnostics will keep the customer from paying for services not needed.

Driveline Services

2J’s Automotive is the Transmission Physician but also service the entire driveline of your car or truck. They can repair or rebuild the front and rear differential of your automobile. Front wheel drive vehicles have differentials built in with the transmission, rear wheel drive vehicles have a rear differential or rear end, and four wheel drive cars and trucks have both front and rear differentials completely independent of the transmission. Over time the internal parts can wear or break causing noise and other problems. Many times these noises can sound as if the transmission is making a noise but can generally be isolated to the differential itself. Differentials also have several seals that can leak which if not repaired quickly can lead to internal damage.

Along with differentials there are many other interrelated parts that can need attention. Attached to the differentials are drive shafts or drive axles. Front wheel drive automobiles utilize CV axles that insert directly into the transmission to generate movement of the front wheels. Many times the boots that hold the grease for the joint get torn and can leak grease further damaging the axle joint. 2J’s Automotive can repair torn boots and even rebuild the axles if needed.

Rear wheel drive and four wheel drive vehicles use drive shafts or propeller shafts to drive the front and rear wheels. These drive shafts use u-joints that can become stiff and cause the drive shaft to not operate properly. If these are not repaired or replaced they can cause severe damage to the transmission differential or even cause the drive shaft to fall out, causing much more damage.
