Dealing with Common Brake Problems

brake_padsExperiencing a brake problem indicates some type or service or repair should be performed to your car’s braking system. Sometimes it’s an unpleasant noise, a brake leak, or the pedal might feel strange upon application.

Whatever you may be experiencing, you’re going to want to have them serviced as soon as possible. Putting off a brake job can end up costing you a lot of money. Bring your car into 2J’s Automotive for the best in complete brake service.

Brake Noise

The most common brake problem is hearing a squeaking or grinding noise when you press down on the brake pedal. This is likely caused by wearing down of the brake pads. Once the pads are worn down enough the contact between the pads and rotors or caliper can cause this unpleasant sound.

The noise can likely be eliminated by replacing the worn down brake pads but other components should be inspected for their quality.

Note: If the noise sounds more intense than usual you could have metal on metal friction happening. This can be very dangerous and you should get a brake job done as soon as possible.

Leaky Brakes

Check around the vehicle for puddles and spots if you suspect a leak. If the Brake Light is on then it is most likely a leak, and leaks are caused by faulty components that need to be found and replaced immediately. It is recommended you check every component in the brake system in order to find where the leak is coming from.

Brake Pedal is Too Hard or Too Soft

Since you use the brake pedal multiple times a day you know how it should feel when you press down on it. If it’s too hard to push, too soft, or vibrates then the entire brake system should be inspected. There could be a problem with the master cylinder not retaining pressure, warped rotors, or there could be a leak somewhere in the brake system.
