Buying vs Rebuilding
If your vehicle were a human being, the engine would be the heart and the transmission may as well be the lungs. Without the transmission working your car will not run properly and it will stay broken until something is done about the faulty transmission.
The transmission is incredibly complex because of the many variations and functions it performs. Transmissions can vary depending on make and model, type of engine, axle ratio, and tire size. If a transmission is not compatible with your vehicle or the engine in particular then serious problems can occur.
You will likely experience shifting problems and your speedometer may even be less accurate since it is connected to a gear in the transmission. Dealing with these issues can be tiresome and in some cases it may be easier to purchase a remanufactured transmission as-is and have it put into your car.
The fact is you don’t always need to purchase a transmission when something goes wrong with it. It is still very possible for problems to arise, and that is why you should seriously consider rebuilding your original transmission.
Note: In almost every case, it’s MUCH more affordable to rebuild a transmission than it is to go out and buy a new one! Rebuilding it yourself will save you $100s in labor costs.
The Rebuild Process
- An initial diagnostic test will check all key areas.
- Transmission is removed from the vehicle and completely disassembled.
- Lay out each part carefully and stay organized.
- Each part is examined and thoroughly cleaned or replaced with a new part if damaged beyond repair.
- All parts are reassembled and the transmission is put back into the car.
- Car is tested to ensure transmission runs properly.
