Avoid Auto Air Conditioning Problems this Summer

noairconditioningAlthough it is regarded as a luxury, air conditioning in our vehicles has practically become standard especially in Texas. Our summers are long and hot and driving under the sun without a functioning air conditioning in your vehicle can be very uncomfortable if not unbearable.

Since air conditioning replacement and repair can be an expensive investment we want to try to avoid it altogether if possible. There are some key indicators to look for that can save you a lot of time and money if they are found and addressed in a timely manner.

When an air conditioner starts acting up many people often report the same things. It’s either not blowing out any air, it’s only blowing out hot air, or the air being blown out has a strange odor to it.

Note: Strange car odors are more common in the winter months when the A/C isn’t seeing regular usage. The smell will be the strongest right behind the dashboard.

These are signs for a much bigger problem with your A/C. The compressor may need to be inspected or you could be leaking refrigerant. Be sure to check the area around your car for leaks to see if your levels are low and if there are any cracks or holes that need to be resealed.

The air blown out of your events is supposed to be cool but it is also supposed to be dry. This may be harder to tell but if you’re noticing the air being blown out is moist or damp then outside contaminants have gotten into the system preventing it from performing efficiently.
